Discover The Hippest Dancing Hotspots In Madrid

With Latin dancer Supreme Bhamra

Who better than a dance lover to take you to a city’s most foot-tapping clubs and hangouts? That’s why, we asked Supreme Bhamra to spin us along one of our favourite cities, Madrid. Put on your dancing shoes and waltz along!

Tell us about yourself and your dance!

Hi! My name is Supreme. By profession I am a freelance graphic designer. Dance has been a part of me since my childhood and I feel blessed to have found Salsa & Bachata. I started my Latin dance journey in 2010 and have enjoyed every single moment of it. Until Sept 2021, my partner (and husband), Yatin and I were also teaching under Furor in Pune, India.

Both Salsa & Bachata are extremely popular partner dances of Latin descent that are danced impromptu at clubs and at social gatherings all around the world.

How would you describe your dancing experience in Madrid?

Loved it! The dancing scene in Madrid is vibrant and energetic, just like the city itself. There are Latin socials across the city throughout the week and they start off the night usually with a workshop by a popular artist. While the sensual style of Bachata was predominant on the floor, we got a healthy dose of Salsa as well.

Which dance hotspots would you recommend in Madrid?

1) Latin Sunsets at Jowke Club in Alcorcón. It’s the biggest and the best Latin social that we went to. If you’re a Salsa, Bachata or Kizomba dancer, you cannot miss the Sundays over there.

2) Café Berlín. We attended a live concert there by 101 Bombo Orquesta and we could not have asked for a better last day in Madrid. This place was suggested to us by DJ Cumbanchero, one of the most popular Salsa DJs in Madrid and we are truly grateful to him. If you enjoy live music, this is the place to be.

A few other popular destinations for a mid-week dose of dancing are The Host Club and Tropical House Madrid. We also enjoyed a commercial Salsa night at Discoteca Azúcar.

Can you share a specific place from Madrid that you felt was striking in its artistry?

Calle Gran Vía & Puerta del Sol. These places don’t just have beautiful landmarks and architecture, their streets are filled with some extremely talented musicians and dancers showcasing their talent. It was a truly heartwarming experience.

Tips for dancers who wish to travel to Madrid

  • Plan your trip for at least 8 days
  • Stay in Madrid Centro.
  • Find out about all the Latin socials before your trip. You can follow DJ Cumbanchero on Instagram as he’s well connected with the Latin scene.
  • Madrid has many great Latin dance instructors like Gaby & Estefy, Marco & Sara. I recommend attending a drop-in class (carry cash). Do get in touch with them well before your trip.

Madrid, you say, is a city that radiates beauty. Your tip for visitors?

They have a city bus tour starting from Puerta del Sol which takes you to almost all tourist spots. I recommend taking the full tour first and then deciding on the activity that interests you the most. It’s probably the most convenient way of sight seeing.

As we were on a dance vacation, we didn’t do much besides dancing but our favourite activity was to take walks in the streets of Puerta del Sol, listening to all the talented musicians there.

One travel secret you wish you knew before you visited Madrid ?

I wish I had known about the night buses there, which operate after 11:30pm.
