Located about 2 km from the famous Ganpatipule Temple, the museum is within walking distance from the bus stand. You can also take the state transport buses and rickshaws from Ratnagiri bus depot to Ganpatipule. The nearest Railway Station from here is Ratnagiri within 22 kilometres and the nearest airport is Dabholin, Goa.
With life-like sculptures of the Maratha hero Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and models of the amazing sea forts of the Konkan region, this place will transport you to a bygone era of Konkani glory.
Adults and children alike will love the museum for its natural beauty: the gardens here host 150 different kinds of trees, which are home to numerous regional species of birds. You will find golden shower trees (bahava), chironji (charoli), sandalwood and many more rare species of trees here.
There’s more! They have an area called ‘Nakshatra Baug’ – a garden of trees for each sun sign. It’s very unique, personal and inspiring.
The entry fee of Rs. 40 includes a guided tour of the place. The all-female staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.
You can also buy handmade wooden handicrafts as souvenirs from their gift shop.
Ganpatipule is famous for its ancient Ganesha temple. But, few know that it is also a beautiful coastal retreat, flanked by mountains. The beach is untouched, with the most incredible coastline. The sand is clear and the waters are the colour of mouthwash.
Established in the year 2004, Prachin Konkan is a fantastic attempt to showcase the best of Konkan history.
