On Our Lust List: The Isle of Arran, Scotland

The stuff of our fondest travel dreams…

We first heard of these enchanting islands from this tiny gem of a book published by the Scottish Tourist Board.

And the sentence that got our attention was that this island is known to be Scotland in miniature! Imagine, one of the most beautiful islands in one of the most beautiful places on the planet! We can’t wait to discover it.

Arran is the largest island in the Firth of Clyde and the seventh largest Scottish island, at 432 square kilometres. The Arran Tourist Office says:

“Getting to Arran couldn’t be easier. If you’re driving it is less than 3 hrs drive time from the North of England, and if you want to use public transport there are excellent rail links directly to Ardrossan Harbour.

The west coast of Scotland is a special place, and as soon as you step aboard a CalMac ferry and sail towards the stunning island of Arran, you will leave all your stress behind on the mainland. As you approach the iconic silhouette of Arran, with Goatfell’s jagged lines dominating the sky (if the clouds lift to let you have a preview), you will instantly relax and start to get into the way of ‘island life’ for your stay here.

Arran delicacies

Arran is not just a feast for the eyes but also for the taste buds. Sample the island’s renowned local produce, including Arran cheese, freshly caught seafood, and artisanal chocolates. Visit the Arran Farmers’ Market to savour the flavours of the region and interact with local producers. Be sure to pair your culinary delights with a sip of Arran whisky, completing the gastronomic experience.

Being surrounded by water, nature, beautiful landscapes and friendly faces, no matter what direction you look, you will get lost in the character of Arran and be inspired by every new sight or experience on the island. It’s a place that stays with you, even when you leave.”
