Overlooking the historic Royal Street in the French Quarter, this 25-seat merry-go-round bar began spinning in 1949. Set inside the beautiful Hotel Monteleone, and spins once every 15 minutes.
With its entertainment schedule of live New Orleans music and a carefully crafted cocktail selection, the Carousel Bar is a favourite with the swish set and the thinking type alike. Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner and Truman Capote were regulars here.

We know what you might be thinking – yes, the bar actually does spin! For those interested in the science behind it, the bar top is where the magic starts. It has a set of rollers underneath, which are connected to a motor. An operator handles the motor, ensuring that the spinning is smooth so that visitors have a fun and seamless drinking experience. Genius, we say!

Must-try at the bar: The in-house Vieux Carré Cocktail, with rye whiskey, cognac and sweet
vermouth.
Heads up: There might be a wait for a seat at the bar itself. In the meanwhile, seat yourself at any of the stationary tables and chairs. Come half an hour before the opening time at 11 am, and you should find a seat right away!
