Sometimes, during our research, we stumble upon photographs that drift us into daydreams…this is one such scene.
A quick Wikipedia search reveals that this is also called Shipwreck Beach. It is an exposed cove. Sometimes referred to as “Smugglers Cove”. On the coast of Zakynthos, in the Ionian Islands of Greece. Navagio Beach was originally known as Agios Georgios.
For us, the appeal is in the fact that the waters of Navagio Beach are not only an impossible sort of blue, but they are also wonderfully warm too. Paired with the cool Ionian Sea breeze and the Mediterranean sunshine, a swim here would be the best kind of soul therapy. don’t you agree?
What sets Navagio Beach apart is its dramatic setting. The beach is framed by towering cliffs that enclose a small, secluded cove. At the centre of the beach lies the wreckage of a smuggler’s ship. Giving the beach its iconic name. The contrast of the rusted ship against the pristine white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters creates an unforgettable sight.
One of the most alluring aspects of Navagio Beach is the colour of its waters. The shades of blue are nothing short of magical, ranging from vibrant turquoise near the shore to deeper shades of sapphire as the waters extend further out. It’s no wonder that the beach is often described as having “impossible blue” waters.
The allure of Navagio Beach lies not only in its stunning visuals but also in the warm temperatures of the Ionian Sea. The inviting waters make it the perfect place to take a refreshing swim, bask in the Mediterranean sunshine, and let all your worries melt away. It’s a place where time stands still, and you can truly connect with nature’s beauty.
